I'm taking a new look at productivity systems through the eyes of non-geeks. When you look at the GTD cheatsheet (above) through their eyes, the first thing that comes to my mind is "Whoa! Am I building a nuclear bomb here? Designing a computer program? WTF?"
It's a very cool sheet, mind you, but there's no way the average person is going to pick it up. Not because the average person is dumb, but because they have way too much shit to be doing than to encode their lives into the GTD matrix.
We need to do better - and when I am looking for inspiration, I come here and your pictures say it all. Unfortunately, the ass biter for me right now is doing yardwork...
Thanks for the link, MoMo. You've got a keen eye, and showing up here is becoming more and more of a mark that I've said something worth a damn.
See this is why I like you...BMA is my kinda thing even though my wife despises me for being a BMA.
You know, life can actually pass you by if you spend too much time GTD. Just a thought.
I'd leave a comment, but I have some things that are currently biting my ass that I need to attend to.
To be visual as you are shows your knack for detecting links among people, places and situations. You're aware of being interconnected to everything and everyone. You move beyond seeing life from only your perspective. This enables you to get more done than you realize. A sense of productivity changes all the time.
For implementing GTD you might try out this web-based application:
Gtdagenda.com
You can use it to manage your goals, projects and tasks, set next actions and contexts, use checklists, schedules and a calendar.
A mobile version is available too.
As with the last update, now Gtdagenda has full Someday/Maybe functionality, you can easily move your tasks and projects between "Active", "Someday/Maybe" and "Archive". This will clear your mind, and will boost your productivity.
Hope you like it.
@Charlie: I really liked the “Exit Tasks” concept in your article; this should head most ass-biters off at the pass.
@Chris: We’ll have to have a beer after the next BMAA meeting.
@Duff: Good to see you have adopted the superior methodology. And nice job with your podcast interview with the creator of the GTD system. – folks should check that out.
@Liara: Thank you, I’m blushing big time. For future reference, I’m more comfortable just being called insane.
@Dan: ummmm, umm, I luvs me sum spam. PS – My “Someday/Maybe functionality” has been dialed to 11 for like ever.
